Detail

Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek is a medium level trek that takes the route towards the South side of Thimphu dzongkhag. The trek offers a short yet breathtaking opportunity to witness the towering peaks of Bhutan’s Himalayas. The trail takes you across high ridges, allowing you to appreciate the rugged beauty and mountain vegetation surrounding you. Along the way, you can explore local Farm Houses and interact with the local people which will make you familiar with their culture and way of their life. 

During the trek, the tour aims to highlight on the following:

  • Visit to the sacred monasteries and fortresses
  • Discover numbers of small pristine lakes along the trail 
  • Learn about Bhutanese traditions and customs
  • Picturesque view of the valleys and mountains
  • Beautiful meadows decorated with wild plants and flowers

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive in Paro

Elevation: 2350m / 7710ft 
 
Paro sightseeing
 
Attractions:
– Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong)
 
– Ta Dzong (Paro National Museum)
 
Overnight at Hotel in Paro

Day 02: Paro -Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery

Driving duration: 15km / 30 Minutes

Elevation: 2,250m / 7,382ft 

Day Hike to Tiger-nest (5-6 hrs round trip)

Attractions

– Tigers-nest Hike (Paro Taktsang)

– Explore at Paro Town

Overnight at Hotel in Paro

Day 03: Begin trek- Gyenkha to Gur

Driving Duration: 45 min/16km from Paro to Gyenkha

Elevation: 5320m/ 14830ft

Your trek starts after a short descent to the river. 

Attractions

– Picturesque view of the valley below

– Yak pasture (yaks and yak herders)

Overnight camp at Thangthangkha

Day 04. Gur to Labatama

Walking Distance: (12km/6hrs) 290m Acent

Start Elevation: 2800m (9186ft)

Camping Elevation: 4250m (13943ft)

Attractions:

–  Appreciate the rugged beauty and the mountain vegetation while ascending up the high ridges

– Refreshing meadows adorned with wild flowers and asparagus (in spring)

– A spectacular views of Kanjenjunga (Sikkim)

– While descending, enjoy the view of the Dagala mountain range, meadows and Yaks herders camp

Overnight camp at Jangothang

Day 05: Labatama (Halt)

Elevation:  4,000m (13123ft) 

 260m ascent

 520m descent 

This day you will be relaxing here in Labatama.

Attractions:

– An excursion to any of three nearby lakes: Reli Tsho, Hen Tsho and Jama Tsho.

Overnight camp at Labatama

Day 06: Labatama- Pangkha

Walking Distance: (8km, 5hrs) Ascent 269m, Descent 520m

Elevation: 4460m (14632ft)

Attractions

– Climb along the western side of Dala Tsho up to a saddle at 4,520m

– Majestic view of Himalayan peaks while descending

– Visible mountain peaks includes Mt. Everest(Nepal) and Mt. Kanchenjunga(Sikkim)

– Yaks herders’ hut

Overnight camp at Pangkha

Day 07: Pangkha - Talakha - Chamgang Trek End - Thimphu

Walking Distance: (10km/6hrs) Ascent 180m, Descent 1630m

Elevation: 4200 meters (13779ft)

Attractions:

– Tale-La Pass (4180m/13713ft)

– Varieties of Blue Poppy (June-July) and mountain birds

– Beauty of Nature while descending

Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu

Day 08: Thimphu Sightseeing

Driving Distance: (24 min/ 10km)

Elevation:  2350m / 7710ft

End the trek and drive to Thimphu capital and check in at the hotel

Attractions

– National Memorial Chorten

– Buddha Point

– The National Library

– Takin Preservation Center

Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu

Day 09: Thimphu-Punakha

Driving duration: 77 km/2hrs

Elevation: 1310m / 4300ft

Attractions

– Do Chula Pass

– Chimmi Lhakhang

– Suspension bridge

– Punakha Dzong/ fortress

Overnight at the hotel in Punakha

Day 10: Punakha- Paro

Driving Duration: 3hrs/ 115km

Elevation:  2250m / 7382ft 

Attractions

– Kyichu Temple

– Visit traditional farmhouse

– Explore Paro town

Day 11: Departure

After a delectable breakfast, time to check out from the hotel. Leave Bhutan behind you carrying only the good memories and experiences as you are accompanied by the representative to the airport for departure.
