Detail

Khoma, the weaving capital of Bhutan. If you are looking for a cultural experience that doesn’t only involve visiting dzongs, consider this tour designed for you. Up until recently, eastern Bhutan was least explored by tourists. However, that has been slowly changing, at a “Bhutan pace” if we may.

Lhuntse is a north-eastern district located next to Trashigang, Bhutan’s largest district. And Khoma is a vibrant, age-old community of weavers not just from the region but from across the country. We believe something as simple as the Kira can be used to learn about a country’s history.

We humbly invite you on this tour if you are looking for an indepth Bhutan experience that is off the beaten path, literally and figuratively.

Day 03: Lhuntse

Get an early morning start from Trongsa. Expect your arrival at Khoma in the evening or late at night.

Please note that roads in Bhutan are meandering, due to the harsh landscape. Journeys made by road may be longer and more exhausting compared to regular travels.

Day 04: Khoma, Lhuntse

Rest and experience the weaving center(s) for the rest of the day. Our manager, who was previously a guide, recommends visiting Khoma primary school & Lhuntse Dzong due to their proximity to Khoma.

Day 05; Kurtoe, Lhuntse

Day excursion to Dungkar in Kurtoe, home to the father of Bhutan’s first king. Plus, the land is shaped as a conch – Dungkar.

Day 06: Drive to Trashigang via Mongar

Your return flight to Paro will depart from Yongphula in Trashigang.

Day 07: Visit Trashigang Dzong and Rangshingkhar Monastery

Take advantage of being in a different district by visiting Trashigang Dzong (Fortress) and a very special monastery – Rangshingkhar Goenpa.

When we first visited Rangshingkhar, we were amazed by its hidden charm. Expect a commune led by the monastery’s head lama and his spouse, who are both very welcoming.

Overnight at the hotel in Trashigang.

Day 08: Flight to Paro

Depart Trashigang.

Flight available every Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday.
