Ura Yakchoe Festival

Ura Valley, located just an hour from Bumthang town, immediately captivates visitors with its stunning scenery. Resembling a prairie in the fall, the valley is renowned for the annual Ura Yakchoe Festival.

The festival, spanning five days, celebrates the arrival of Guru Rinpoche. “Yakchoe” refers to the sacred animal yak, to which offerings were made, by the inhabitants of Ura even before Buddhism.

In addition to sacred dances, the festival features oral storytelling, preserving local customs and traditions. This important cultural event welcomes outsiders, providing a unique opportunity for locals to share their heritage and culture.
