Taktsang/Tiger’s Nest Monastery

Paro taktsang

Perched on a 2,500-foot cliff, Tiger’s Nest Monastery, or Taktsang, is one of Bhutan’s most famous spots. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche flew on a tigress’s back to meditate in a cave here, making it a sacred site.

The hike to Taktsang takes 2-3 hours and offers beautiful views along the way. Many Bhutanese people visit every year, drawn by its spiritual significance and the challenge of the hike. Ponies are available to help you reach a certain point on the trail.

Though a fire destroyed the monastery in 1998, it has been beautifully restored. The journey to Taktsang offers stunning views and a profound sense of spirituality, making it an unforgettable experience for both adventurers and spiritual seekers.
