Yurung Tsho
Yurung Tsho is a small lake at about 1,420 m beside the Yurung gewog centre, and what makes it is the ring around it. A low wall of small white chortens encloses the water, with lines of white prayer flags above. A single white chorten stands on the far bank, and through a painted gateway a stepped path runs down to the lake between two more rows of chortens.
The lake holds fish.

A school’s ground
The lake lies in the grounds of Yurung Central School, a working boarding school, with its classrooms, hostels and staff quarters around it.
The school opened in April 1959 on the orders of the Third King, with 138 students and three teachers, two years before Bhutan’s first Five-Year Plan began in 1961. For its first five years it taught in Hindi and Choekey, and changed to English in 1964.
This is the middle of a gewog, not a remote lake. The gewog office, a community centre, the health centre and a traditional medicine unit are all within a few hundred metres.
From Khangma Chorten
Khangma Chorten, the carpenter’s stupa above the Khangma valley, is 15 km away, 45 minutes to an hour on an unpaved road. See things to do in Pemagatshel for the rest of the district.
