Pangri Zampa, a college for traditional astrology, was founded in the early 16th century. Zhabdrung stayed here upon his arrival in Bhutan as it appeared in his dreams. The site is notable for its two large cypress trees and the presence of a highly respected head astrologer.
Pangri Zampa is an important site where locals gather for wangs (blessings) from religious heads. Rituals beneficial for the larger community, such as those for the country, are also performed here. The monastery houses a statue of a mermaid who is considered the consort of Ap Genyen, who resides in Dechenphu Lhakhang, a site off-limits to tourists.
