Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary

Located in Bumdeling Gewog, Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary is a UNESCO World Heritage site that spans an area of 1,520.61 km². The sanctuary serves as the winter home of the endangered Black-necked Crane, after they migrate south from Tibet.

Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary stretches across three Dzongkhags: Mongar, Khoma in Lhuntse, and Trashiyangtse. One of the most remarkable features of the sanctuary is its diverse range of elevations, from 1,000 meters to 6,000 meters, offering a unique variety of landscapes and habitats.

To the north, the sanctuary shares its border with China’s Tibetan Province. The Drangeme Chhu and Kholong Chhu rivers run through the sanctuary, with the latter being the source of the Kholong Chhu Hydropower Project.
