Established in 1973, the Khaling School for the Blind started with just three students, one of whom was from Trashigang. The school was founded by a Norwegian principal, his wife, and a Bhutanese teacher. Prince Namgyel Wangchuck, the grand-uncle of the current king, played a significant role in the school’s establishment and growth.
Eight years later, in 1981, the school was officially placed under the Ministry of Education. Over the years, with support from the royal government, the school has expanded to provide boarding facilities for a growing student body. Students from Khaling have even participated in the Paralympics, highlighting the school’s remarkable impact and achievements.
The school is currently known as the Muenselling Institute.
