The Grand Opening of the Chang Yul Park

Chang Yul Park

Last week in the capital Thimphu, Their Majesties the King and the Queen, along with members of the Royal Family, officially opened the Chang Yul Park, located just below the Changjiji flyover bridge.

The Chang Yul Park is a first of its kind in Bhutan, with its grand scale and design.

Construction started in 2022, and the park spans 7 acres. It has all the facilities of a modern day park, and more. There are multiple cafeterias, an information center, washroom facilities, and lush greenery with flowers. To maintain and preserve Bhutanese culture, the park also features traditional doors, both at the entrance and within the park.

The Chang Yul Park is a Royal project and therefore Desuups, the country’s volunteer military personnel, also an initiative of His Majesty the King, contributed significantly to the construction of the park.

Although it rained towards the afternoon on the opening day, it did not stop the public from visiting the park and enjoying themselves.

One of the park attendees said, “We are proud of it.” They said that whenever they go abroad, they see lots of parks and to have something similar at home is nice. He also expressed excitement about seeing the park’s night view.

In the evening, the park held a concert that drew a large crowd. The park is set to become a haven for city dwellers and their children.
