Traditional Bhutanese cuisine to tickle your taste buds

  1. Ema-datshi – Chili cooked in cheese sauce and served with rice.
  2. Kule and puta – Buckwheat pancakes and noodles respectively that were formerly the staple diet in Bumthang and central Bhutan.
  3. Gondomaru – Scrambled eggs cooked in butter.
  4. Eze – A Bhutanese salad composed of hot peppers, soft cheese, tomatoes, and finely chopped onions.
  5. Zao (toasted rice), pchie (roasted flour), sip (flattened rice) and gesasip (flattened maize) – These can be taken with tea or suja (butter tea)
  6. Kabze – Dried fritters in various shapes that are usually prepared for festivals.
