The Paro Tshechu is an annual event held every spring. It is the most popular pageantry in Bhutan as the the festival features mask dances that commemorate the deeds of Guru Rinpoche. These dances invoke the tantric deities who use their powers to remove misfortunes by suppressing evil spirits. The event starts with monks performing the Shingje Yab Yum, followed by Durdag, the dance of the lords of the cremation grounds. Then, the dance of the black hats, Shanag, and the dance of the drums from Drametse (Drametse Ngacham) are performed inside the Rinpung Dzong, Paro.
